I am a Product Designer, Amelia is an illustrator (www.ameliajohnstone.com) and together we will be running the New York Marathon in 2013, illustrating and documenting it as we go! One drawing per mile marker.
We have a machine; “Pheidippides” named after the message-carrying marathon runner of Ancient Greek legend – Pheidippides; a scrolling sketchbook machine, will inspire each of Amelia’s 26.3 illustrations. I carry Pheidippides on my back, and responding to the machine’s instructions Amelia makes a unique illustration, harnessing the catalyst of environment, exercise and Pheidippides’ ‘inspiration’.

The scroll will become a continuous drawing, illustrating in itself the whole marathon as well as each individual mile.
